The pond is incontestably the central feature of Marie-Louise Square; it occupies the greater part of its area. The jet of water springing from a rock, the artificial grotto overrun by vegetation and the waterfalls that tumble down there make the site completely picturesque. Some trees there are considered remarkable by the Brussels-Capital Region. Red-eared slider turtles, an exotic species set free, have colonised the pond.
