Brugmann trauma and rehabilitation centre
The Brugmann hospital site must be expanded to comply with current standards with regard to comfort and privacy. To this end, a new wing of 51 beds is being added to the complex.
During a later phase, the existing wings will be renovated. Thanks to aid from the Brussels-Capital Region, the directors of the works are aiming for the “exemplary building” qualification for this expansion. This has taken the form of high-performance insulation and an airtight shell, external sun protection, energy-saving lighting, a complete building management system, a guaranteed temperature, use of insulation materials free of CFCs, use of rainwater (70m3 cistern) and finally use of solar energy: 25m2 of thermal panels for domestic hot water and 80m2 of photovoltaic panels for electricity.
The ambitious objective is to reduce heating consumption to 8.4 kWh/m2.yr.
