Avenue des dix arpents
The principles of eco-construction have been given priority for this passive residence. Cellular concrete has been chosen, with FSC wood for the terrace, the woodwork and floor in bamboo, natural paints and oils, and concrete based on recovered construction waste.
The whole is very airtight and the double flow ventilation guarantees controlled aeration. The large windows let the abundant light and heat of the sun enter during the cool seasons. In summer, external sun protection and a ground-coupled heat exchanger prevent any overheating.
The other facilities make use of renewable energy: a photovoltaic facility, thermal solar collectors and a heat pump with geothermal probe, not to mention a rainwater cistern. The residence has been equipped with a consumption control system (20kWh/m2.yr) using a full set of parameters. This can be followed online at www.strages.be.
